This Film Is Not Yet Rated (2005)
Director Kirby Dick interviews a variety of well-known film industry professionals. They discuss — and try to make sense of — the Motion Picture Industry of America’s apparently nonsensical approach to rating movies. Conspicuous by his absence is critic Roger Ebert, a noted opponent of MPAA methods.
While its approach feels by turns dry and unsuccessfully comic, it nonetheless manages to present its message and evidence clearly. Discovering This Film means learning of the existence of a black box, one you can’t look inside. I’ll be thinking about it for some time to come.
